Germany wouldn't have had to attack Poland in order to get to their number one target, the USSR. Thus you don't get the trigger incident that led GB and France to finally declare war on Germany....

I agree that Stalin giving more freedom for his generals to use their initiative in 1941, rather than not decimating the officer corps (though not shooting them would also be an additional advantage)...
